Where Turnitin is objectively stronger
Turnitin integrates with institutional workflows and provides similarity and AI-writing reports for supported submissions. Its official guidance explains qualifying long-form prose, file requirements, report interpretation, and the need for further scrutiny before conclusions.
Universities and schools may already have policies, training, retention, and appeal procedures around Turnitin. HumanTyped cannot replace those systems or determine plagiarism, academic misconduct, or compliance with an assignment.
Where HumanTyped is different
HumanTyped does not scan a submitted essay. The writer must use the controlled editor while creating the text. Accepted changes are recorded, paste and drop are rejected, and the server reconstructs the final result before sealing a receipt.
That workflow fits short public posts better than an institutional paper. The receipt can be shared openly, but it cannot identify the writer, see another device, or guarantee that external AI assistance was absent.
A fair decision process
If a detector flags work, preserve the report and original submission, disclose the model and policy, and invite the writer to provide drafts, sources, version history, or process evidence. No single score should silently become the sole basis for an adverse action.
A HumanTyped receipt may contribute to that record when it genuinely covers the submitted wording. It should not override contradictory evidence or be manufactured after the event by retyping an existing document.
