Reusable template
Disclose AI assistance with enough detail to be meaningful.
The best disclosure is specific enough for a reader to understand the tool's role but short enough to appear beside the work. These templates are starting points, not certifications.
Describe function
Say whether the tool researched, brainstormed, drafted, rewrote, translated, transcribed, or proofread.
Describe review
State who selected the output, checked sources and claims, revised the language, and accepts responsibility.
Avoid purity labels
“Human” and “AI” are often inadequate for mixed workflows; concrete process language is easier to evaluate.
No generative drafting in the final text
Use this only when accurate. Ordinary spelling or grammar support may still need disclosure under a specific client, school, or publication policy.

Research, outlining, or editing assistance
Use a precise version for assistance that influenced the process but did not supply the majority of final prose.
- I used [tool] to help with [brainstorming, outline options, research discovery, translation, or editing].
- I independently checked the cited sources and claims, selected the useful material, and rewrote or approved the final text.
- Any errors, omissions, and final editorial decisions remain my responsibility.
Generated or mixed drafting
Use this when generated wording materially survives in the final publication. Do not downplay drafting as proofreading simply because a person edited the output afterward.
- [Tool] generated an initial draft or specific sections identified at [location].
- I revised the structure and wording, verified [sources or facts], and removed material that did not meet the publication standard.
- The final work is a mixed human–AI production; [person or organization] accepts responsibility for publishing it.
