Honest answer
You cannot prove a total absence of AI—but you can present better evidence.
A universal negative is difficult to prove. No browser can observe every device, conversation, source, or thought. The defensible approach is to document the process you can observe and disclose the gaps you cannot close.
Avoid absolute language
Say what was recorded and where, rather than claiming that no unobserved assistance could have occurred.
Preserve contemporaneous work
Notes and revisions created during the project are stronger context than a detector result produced afterward.
Disclose permitted assistance
Spell-checking, editorial feedback, research tools, and generative help should be described according to the relevant policy.
Why a detector result is not proof
An AI text detector examines the final language and estimates whether patterns resemble its model of generated writing. It did not observe the author, the research, or the sequence of revisions. A low score is not a certificate that no AI was used, just as a high score is not proof of misconduct.
Detector providers themselves describe limits and the need for human judgment. Treat the output as one signal at most, especially for short, edited, translated, formulaic, or non-native writing.
Evidence you can assemble
Keep the brief, outline, research notes, citations, dated drafts, version history, and correspondence with editors. If the work is written in HumanTyped, preserve the receipt that binds the observed session to the sealed text and choose an appropriate replay visibility.
Explain any gap rather than filling it with certainty. If a paragraph was drafted elsewhere, a collaborator rewrote a section, or a tool suggested wording, state that plainly. Credibility often comes from an accurate boundary, not from a stronger slogan.
A defensible way to phrase the claim
Use language such as: “I wrote this text in the recorded session shown here. The receipt verifies the process observed in that editor. I also used the sources and editorial feedback listed below.” Adapt the statement to the actual work and policy.
Do not say that a HumanTyped score establishes identity or makes outside assistance impossible. If the dispute has academic, employment, or legal consequences, ask for a review that considers multiple records and gives the writer an opportunity to explain them.
